The National
Workers Bank was founded and commenced business in October, 1988 as the
first bank of the professionals’ category, in accordance with the bases
and controls of banking services set by the Bank of Sudan. The purpose is
to contribute to the promotion of social and economic development in the
country. |

To conduct all banking and
investment business, in accordance with rules and regulations issued by the
central
Bank of Sudan. |
To gather savings of different social categories, with
the intent of investing them. |
To attract capital from abroad as well as local and to
invest such in different useful projects. |
To
finance economic development projects in fields of
production (agricultural and industry), export and
import local trade, and various services; Financing of
craftsmen, professionals and small-scale producers; and
to cater to the development of cottage industries and
the promotion of creativity in the different
fields of production. |
To
establish various investment projects in different fields such as industry,
farming, housing &foreign trade and the relief of the burden of cost of living. |

The Bank commenced business in 1988, with a paid-up capital
of SD 800,000 (out of an authorized capital of SD 1.5 million). In
consideration of the significance of capital, as the base for the
furtherance of bank’s social and economic role, it was imperative to
increase the bank’s capital, to SD100m, in 1994 and then to SD1billion, in
1998. in compliance with policies of restructuring and reform of the
banking sector that require the minimum of each bank’s capital
amounts to SD3b, the paid-up capital of the Bank was increased to
21.3 $
by the end of 2006. |
